Arab Women Excited Learning Malay in Jawi

KAJANG, 25 Jan 2024 — The Malay language class organized by the Refugee Community Educare Center (RCEC) held at Almanahil School at Jalan Saga here continues to excite the non-citizen community.

Students comprising Palestinian, Syrian and Yemeni Arab women became excited and enthusiastic when their teacher started using the Arabic syllable Jawi spelling method to make it easier for them to spell and pronounce words in Malay.

RCEC is HALUAN’s effort to help refugees or foreign diaspora learn the language, culture and ethics of Malaysian society to help them assimilate. Only through the education process can they appreciate and respect the norms and tolerance of the life of the local community which is multi-ethnic, cultural and religious wise.

About 40 female adults and young girl participated in the module which began last week. The diversity of the participants’ backgrounds, aged between 13 and 58 years old, greatly enhanced the learning atmosphere. This time, they became so excited when they could say the names of Malay cooking ingredients which will catalyse their ability to speak Bahasa Melayu.
HALUAN has also opened registration for Palestinian youths to participate in Malay language classes specifically for male students that will begin next week.
