International Peace Day

International Peace Day

Prejudices of colour, language, country, and nationality are the plagues to universal disruption of peace and unity in the world. Many have discarded the tenets of humanity and drew small circles to separate themselves from outsiders. Instead of learning from these differences, it has always been the case of “Us” versus “them” or “White” versus “Black”.

These prejudices happen not on the basis of rational and moral grounds but on a misconstrued social discrimination construct of fate; if you are born with white skin you are superior or if you are born with dark skin you are inferior.

In celebrating the International Peace Day, let us turn those differences into reasons to learn and respect one another. Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding.

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” – The Qur’an Chapter 49 al-Hujurat (The Chambers) Verse 13.
