BANDAR BARU BANGI, July 11, 2018 – A total of 38 international NGO representatives had a firsthand account of HALUAN’s experience in conducting volunteerism programmes both domestically and internationally.

In a dialogue session at HALUAN headquarters today, NGO representatives from Tanzania, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Turkey witnessed a multimedia presentation delivered by HALUAN Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Wan Abdullah Sabary Hj. Wan Harun. They were accompanied by consultants from the University of Kansas, USA, Dr. Jerry Schultz and Dr. Vincent Fransisco.

The session was also attended by President of HALUAN, Dr. Abdullah Sudin Ab Rahman, who fielded questions from the participants.

The programme is part of the “Count Me In” volunteer development training module organised by the NAMA Foundation. It is a series of training aimed at empowering the volunteerism sector.

In the question and answer session, Dr. Abdullah Sudin, among others, explained the challenges HALUAN faces in efforts to call up for volunteers, raising financial resources to run volunteerism programmes, and the importance of education in helping the community. Participants were also pleased with HALUAN’s approach in empowering women to build a sustainable and a more beneficial generation for the community.

The participants were appreciative of HALUAN’s experience. Chairman of the Munashoroh Foundation of Indonesia, Mr Adhi Azfar, was grateful for the knowledge, paradigm and new spirit of the program. “I summarise this experience in three words – impressive, mindsetting, and increase in knowledge,” he said.

Meanwhile representatives from Tanzania were hopeful that HALUAN can initiate humanitarian efforts in their country.

HALUAN appreciates efforts by NAMA Foundation and the participants who have shared their opinions and experiences for the common good.
