HALUAN stands for Pertubuhan Himpunan Lepasan Institusi-institusi Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (a Malaysian Organization of Higher Institution graduates). It is a Non Government Organization (NGO) established in 1988. HALUAN is an Islamic based NGO providing welfare services without limit to religions, races, politics, or geographical areas.
In its early years, HALUAN activities were mainly directed towards the welfare and benefit of its members. During this period, programs such as seminars and counseling for students and teenagers, family development training, courses related to economy and entrepreneurship, as well as motivation and management camps were carried out and tailored for its members with very minimal involvement from the public.
Since 2002, HALUAN has started to engage with community issues. Planned and well executed programs have enable HALUAN to effectively alleviate social issues as well as rendering assistant to poor, abandoned, orphans, and those affected by calamities. These activities open up the opportunities to the capable and sincere public to join in as volunteers and work together with HALUAN.
HALUAN ASPIRATION – Ethical, Educating and Serving
As alumni of graduates, HALUAN focuses on programs which integrate education, support and community activities to fill in the humanity needs while obeying its obligation to the Creator. HALUAN envision the reestablishment of knowledge driven and visionary society, law abiding citizen living in harmony and respectful to each others.
Thus, HALUAN activists and volunteers always lean on their motto - ”ethical, educating, and serving” as aspiration in performing their activities. HALUAN strives to involve the community in all activities that evolves around this motto. Its activists are responsible to solemnly move forward and putting community interest above theirs.
In general, the objectives of HALUAN programs are as follow:
- To assist the government in facing socio-economy woes especially in promoting a happy contented family, counselling family and teenagers conflicts, supporting single families, the poor and orphans.
- To maintain the high spirit and concerns of community in contributing towards the harmony and peace of the country.
- To be the medium of charity
